when i step on the gas the car stops

I need to know year and model.  But, for the moment I would think the hose that connects from the airmeter to the intake could be cracked.  I have had many older Nissan and Datsun cars with this problem.  The hose gets a crack and when you puch on the gas a crack opens up killing the car.  Unmetered air gets past the airmeter and it stalls.  Check this out and let me know if that is the problem.
