Nissan Repair: 1997 NISSAN SENTRA GXE IDLE, nissan sentra, stepper motor

Question
The car runs fine -- the only problem I seem to have is that when the car is already warm and I re-start after being somewhere for a few minutes the car seems to want to die unless I give it more gas than normal.  It does not have this problem when cold starting at all.  Do I need to have the idle adjusted up? This is only when starting the car, not when the car is being driven and only when the car has already been driven for a while.

Answer
Ron,

The throttle body needs to be cleaned and possibly the PCV valve needs replacement.  The car runs fine when it is cold since the computer puts it in cold start mode.  But, when the car goes into closed loop the stepper motor cannot keeps up with the idle program.  So, I would clean the throttle body wiht carburetor cleaner and wipe ouut the excess.  You see, you cannot spray cleaner while the car is running since the air meter will freak out.  So, you take the intake hose off and spray the cleaner in the intake while the car is off.  Then you wipe out the excess and then reconnect everything and start the car up.  The problem is it will be overly rich from the cleaner and a real pain to start.  Put the foot to the floor and clear the flooding condition and then it should start.  Remember not to keep the foot on the gas so you will not over rev the engine.  You just want to get it started.  And, it will run rough for a few minutes since it was flooded with the cleaner.  But, after a few minutes it will run fine.
