Nissan Repair: 94 Altima battery, amp fuse, altenator

Question
Hey! I asked a question earlier about changing the alternator and battery and the car not starting.  It turned out to be the 75 amp fuse next to the battery was blown.  I got a new one and plugged it in and as soon as I did it blew.  I know their is too much juice but how do I fix it.  Is there a ground wire on the alternator I'm missing?  There is the plug and the harness that goes on the alternator.  Is there two connectors on the alternator and one happens to be the ground?  I put both connectors on the altenator.  Am I correct?  Thanks!!

Answer
Jeremy,

If the 75 amp fuse blows you have a problem with the wiring not being connected properly at the alternator or a pinched wire that is going directly to ground or the starter is hung and shorting out the system.  I would go from the last time the car worked fine and think about what was done to a vehicle before the problem existed and you can usually isolate the problem.  I once had a Corvette that has the transmission replaced and the shop pinched the starter wiring harness between the bellhousing and the engine so it was an intermittent thing and once I looked where the last work occured it stuck out where you could see it.  So, look at the harness and then the alternator, battery and starter.  Make sure all the wires are correctly hooked up and if you have to go check out another Altima at a used car lot or the like to get an idea.  If something is really complex get a digital camera and take a photograph before dissassembly and that makes it much easier when it goes back together.  I also have marking tape for things like this where you connect the same color clips to what is supposed to go together.
