Nissan Repair: 1987 Nissian Stanza Blower, control mechanisms, seventeen years

Question
The Blower on this particular car will only come on when the car is jared by going over bumps in the road or railroad tracks.  I have tapped and wiggled the control mechanisms and blower motor in an attempt to recreate the motion with no success.  Turning on the A/C for instance engages the compressor but not the blower.  Any thought?

Answer
Skip,

I have an 86 Stanza and it was the blower motor on mine.  It was doing the same thing as yours.  The nice thing is the new blower will make the system work much better.  I think my bushings were so dry that the thing was only doing half the speed it was supposed to.  My bet is yours has the brushes worn almost out and the bushings are dragging the motor where the break away torque required is more than the motor can handle.  Plus, there is something akin to a new life form that is in the blower case that needs to be cleaned out when you replace the blower motor.  Mine had seventeen years of leaves and dirt that was binding up the works inside.
