Nissan Repair: Transmission??, 2004 nissan xterra, nissan xterra


Question
I dont know much about cars, but have a question to ask
you..Is it possible to change a manual transmission to an
automatic trans. in a 2004 Nissan Xterra with only 8,000
miles.  Im just a horrible manual driver.

Yes, it is possible.  But, it is going to cost a lot of money.  Basically, you need a doner truck to get all the parts out of.  On your you would need the transmission, crossmember, driveshaft, shifter and related linkages.  Plus, you will need to make sure that the transmission does not require electrical interface with the computer.  If that is the case you would need the computer and harness out of the doner.  A long story short, unless you have a lot of money and time it is easier to trade the vehicle for one with an automatic transmission.
