Nissan Repair: Nissan Pathfinder 2004 oil filter change, fastening device, 2004 nissan pathfinder

Question
To change the oil filter I must remove the mud shield.  Had no problem removing the 8 bolts, however at the front of the shield there is a button like plastic fastening device holding the shield in place. I have turned it with my fingers,but it doesn't want to unlock. Don't want to force it for fear of breaking it.  Do I need a special tool to remove this.  Thanks for your help.

Use a small screwdriver and pry the center part of the clip out and the entire clip will follow.  The clip is a press in type with the center being the locking device.  It basically pushes out the back part of the outer part of the clip.  The good news is they are only a couple of bucks to replace if you break them and Nissan has them by the bin full.
