I'm not sure I'm saying it right, but I just took my 95 Maxima in today have the "check engine" light diagnosed. I had to replace my rear oxygen sensor and they said I also need my Nos sensor replaced. They said it would be about $550 to do that. Is this something that I will damage my car if I drive it for a few weeks? I just don't have that kind of money laying around. The mechanic suggested that I not drive on hills as that would cause the most problems and I might notice my engine isn't performing as usual.

Any insight you have is appreciated!

Don't know what a Nos sensor is?  The oxygen sensor is something that does fail after this many years.  Are you sure they were not talking about your Mass Airflow Sensor (MAS)?  Is the check engine light still on?  If it is go to Autozone and get them to run the code for you.  If it is the MAS go and buy one from courtesynissan.com on-line for something like $300 bucks and do it yourself.  It is the unit that goes between the air filter and the throttle body.  Just two hose clamps and a plug.  Disconnect the battery cable before you change it and when you have it connected hook the battery back up and you wil be good to go.  Maxima's are known for the MAS going bad after this many years.  I have one and know what I am talking about.

Sorry about that. I was saying it wrong. It's the knock sensor. The mechanic who worked on the car showed me where it goes and said it was very difficult to replace. Luckily, I haven't had issues with the other one, but I now know what to do if I ever run into that problem. They ran diagnostics there and said there were 2 to replace.

Any thoughts on the Knock Sensor? I really appeciate your help!

Answer
The knock sensor is a pain to replace and yes it is under the intake where it is hard to access.  If you have a mechanic that will do it for the price go for it.  Unless you have the weekend and the tools I would job it out too.  Be sure to replace the water hose that is under there when the knock sensor is replaced and be sure to buy a factory one.
