Nissan Repair: Altima Warning Lights, nissan altima, rear defogger

Question
I have a 1996 nissan altima with about 60K miles. About a month ago, my brake and battery light came on at the same time. I took it to auto zone who told me to remove the anti-corrosive matter on the battery, they said the alternater was unable to properly charge the battery with it on. Once the anti-corrosive was removed, I brought it back to auto zone. My alternater tested to be fine, but the lights were still on. Both the battery and the brake light went off on my way home and I charged my battery. The car had been fine, but when I was driving the other day, I noticed both the battery and the brake light flickering on and off, so I turned off the lights and radio. I'm wondering what this could be, could it be a short somewhere? I'm concerned because I have to drive an hour and 15 minutes away, and I'm afraid my car will shut off on me and leave me stranded. Please let me know if you have any suggestions and if you think I'll be able to make the drive. Thank you!

Answer
Hi Danielle,  Make sure the Alternator belt is good and tight first. Don't overlook the obvious. Then nearly every time I have seen this before it ends up needing an Alternator before long. Next time you see it flicker I bet if you turn on the heater or A/C and maybe the radio and rear defogger. It will probably stay on solid again. That is when it is not charging. Mike
