Nissan Repair: tranny fluid, transmission fluid, modulator

Question
hello darrel...hope you can help me.  i have n 87 maxima with 160k miles. i recently took it to a monroe muff/brake place to have the transmission fluid flushed and filled.  the technician suggested i skip the flush part from now on and just have the fluid drained and filled because on cars of this mileage a flush may actually do more harm than good.  i bought the car with 70k miles on it, had it flushed and filled at 100k with no major problems...a skipped gear here and there, some slipage going up hills in overdrive and occasionally the car will not engage into second gear under hard acceleration, it just goes from first into no gear and the engine winds out until i realise what is happening and let off the gas and then second gear engages and the drama is over.  i would just like your opinion on the matter.  thank you very much for your time, this is a great service.     josh

Answer
Josh,

Check your modulator.

The way I check mine is take hose off.  If fluid is coming out I change the modulator.

If this doesn't solve gears between shifting, your belts are no longer any good on the tranny.

It is either to loose or to tight.  More than likely to LOOSE since it is winning out.

As for as flushing the transimission the mechanic is correct on this part.
