Nissan Repair: Nissan Alternater replacement, nissan sentra, alternater

How do I determine which alternater to use?  1993 Nissan Sentra.  The parts site shows two, one with an adapter.  I just bought the car. It does not have an alternater on it.  It runs fine with just the battery.  Also what repair manual would you suggest?  Are there any online sources?  Any advice?

Sorry Micheal forgot about the book question.  I use a Chilton Manual myself.  But there are others out there.  Check out your local Auto Zone or even a walmart.. for a repair book.

Your parts store will give you the exact part to purchase.  Just give them the make, model, year and engine size.  

You can run it without the alt.  However, it will drain your battery over a SMALL period of time.  The money you invest in replacing a battery everytime.  You could have just bought an alt.
