Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 2000 Buick LeSabre, fuel level sensor, air conditioner compressor

Question
My gas gauge stays at full-told it could be gauge or could be float in tank-both quite expensive(?)
Loud noise when car running-(sounds like the noise when putting power window up & down)-mechanic says some GM vehicles get loud air pumps when mileage starts to get high (my car has 75,000 miles)

Answer
Hi
The fuel level sensor is now avalible by itself.
I am guessing around $100.00 part. On your vehicle it is accessible through the trunk, so I would think no more than 1.5hrs labor. That is JUST A GUESS.
It is probabally this sensor.
Also get a can of part #88861011  (88861012 canada) from your local GM dealership.
It will assist in protecting the new sensor from high sulphur fuels (makes sensors fail).
As far as the noise, if he (mechanic) was speaking of the Air Conditioner Compressor, yes they do occasionally make noise, but it is NOT normal. It needs to be checked and repaired. It could catostrophically fail and worse case, break the belt and leave you stranded.
I would have him check it, and give a price on compressor replacement.
I Hope this helps.
Good Luck
