Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 1992 buick lesabre, fuel pressure gauge, crankshaft position sensor

Question
i have a 1992 buick lesabre 3.8 liter engine. the car sometimes just cuts off, and wont start for a while but let the car sit for a few minutes and it will start again. what could the problem be?

Answer
Hi
Could be a many different things.
You should, if possible determine if your loosing spark or fuel. Have the PCM (computer) scanned for codes, also.
Have a fuel pressure gauge mounted on vehicle, and when it stalls, see what the fuel pressure is/was.
When it will not start after a stall, hook a spark tester on 1 or more of the plug wires and see if it is sparking.
Here is a partial list of items it COULD be....
It could be the Crankshaft position sensor.
It also could be the crank sensor wires at sensor.
The Ignition module.
The Fuel pump.
I would go have it checked at your local repair shop for these items.. It can get VERY EXPENSIVE very fast, just changing parts. Get it properly diagnosed and repaired.
I do hope this helps.
Good luck
