Auto body repair & detailing: Honda Pilot Door Damage (Repair/Replace?), quality repair facility, honda pilot

Question
My 2005 Honda Pilot was recently hit on the driver's side front and rear doors.  Fender-bender type accident at very low speed backing out of parking lot.  The damage appears to be limited to the exterior panels (doors open/close fine and are still in alignment).  The rear door is minor and driver door has 1-2 foot long dent, scrape, and crease from the accident.

Would a body shop be more inclined to attempt a repair of the door panel(s) or would they be more inclined to remove & replace?  The other guy's insurance would be paying, so can I insist on remove and replace even if the shop believes they can repair?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer
Without seing the damage it's impossible for me to say it would be better to replace vs repair, but there are a couple of things to consider. If it is severe enough it warants replacement, the insurance co. will probably recommend a door skin replacement. On a metal door, that requires the removal of the outer panel, and welding (or bonding) a new door skin in place. The biggest problem with this is the potential for long term corrosion damage. You need to be certain the repair facility can repair the damage without voiding the manufacturers warranty. If it doesn't need a door skin, and can be repaired that may be less of a corrosion problem. Either way; have it repaired by a quality repair facility, and check your warranty. Also if the insurance co. recomends a body shop, and you don't want (or trust) them to do the repair, you can have your choice of repairers.
I hope this helps,
