Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 2001 Oldsmobile Silhouette, oldsmobile silhouette, fan clutch

Question
A few days ago, the A/C started blowing warm air like A/C wasn't on.  Yesterday, the engine started to overheat while driving in town.  Any ideas.  I've checked fluid levels.

Answer
Hi Rob,
Silhouettes are not in my experience, so I don't know what type of cooling fan systems they have, but both of your problems could easily be caused by lack of air flow through the radiator.
Obviously, dirt, paper, or other debris plugging the fins could cause it, but the fan not operating is the other cause.
Electric fan not operating, or in the case of a belt driven fan, a bad fan clutch could cause it.

If cooling fan is the problem, it will usually overheat and act like that in town, but cool and act normal on the highway. That is due to the fact that when driving at highway speeds, air is forced through by speed, and doesn't even need a fan.
But in town, the airflow is completely dependent on the fan.
With a fan clutch, it can look like it is operating fine at idle, but actually not be moving enough air.
