Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: injectors, throttle body injection, mobile mechanic

Question
Thanks for the prompt reply. So, where are the injectors? How much should it cost to replace all 6 injectors?

-----Question-----
1989 Buick V6 135000mi was running just fine then suddenly died going to the store. Cranked it several times but never even sputtered and smelled gas. Pulled air cleaner and found lots of gas. Called mobile mechanic and he said injector was stuck. He also said the motor would have to be torn down to fix the injectors at a cost of $1200. Is that right? Could a frayed wire short an injector to be on all the time? I need help.
-----Answer-----
$1200. no way!!

To answer your other question about the wire...the injectors get power whenever the switch is in run.
The ECM completes the ground circuit to the injectors to open them as needed.
In a nutshell...if the ground wire from the injector to the ecm is frayed, and touching ground, the injector will act like an open water valve, and fuel will spray as long as power is turned on.
If the power wire were touching ground, it would just blow a fuse.

None of the work should require tearing an engine down....maybe remove the spark plugs and blow any accumulated fuel out of the cylinders.

Don't use that mechanic.

Answer
Hi Don,\
You would need some more specific information to know where they are.
That year Buicks, depending on the carline, could have a carburetor, throttle body injection which has only one injector, and multiport injection systems, which have an injector in each intake manifold runner.
There is even a central point injection system which has a spyder and set of poppet valves inside the intake manifold, but I don't think that one was available then.

So something on your car should say EFI, or MPFI. Or it might say TBI on a tag in the engine compartment.

If you pulled the air cleaner off something that looks similar to a carburetor, but with wires connected on top, I think you have throttle body injection...one injector, and not hard to work on.
