Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 1985 olds 98 will not run, vacuum leaks, jumper wire

Question
I have an '85 Olds 98 with a 3.8 v6. My problem is this, over the last few weeks the car started running rough and not wanting to idle right. Well it finally died on me and now wont start. I'm getting close to 45# fuel pressure and the spark is yellow. Replaced the module and coil to no effect. When i crank the engine I get a popping sound, not sure why. Timing chains nice and tight, timing is set right and the person I bought the car from just replaced the cap, rotor, plugs, wires and the pick-up. I have power to the coil and the ground is good. I'm stumped on this one. Any suggestions? Thanks, Justin

Answer
Hi Justin,
Did you ask me this question already?
Seems you have checked everything exactly like I told someone just a few days ago.
Maybe you are just plain good.

I would remove the dist cap, and crank it, to see if the popping still happens.
Look at the rotor to see if it is hitting the cap.
I might even replace the rotor and cap.
If you try hard enough, you can get the rotor on backwards on some engines. Make sure it isn't.

Pull the EGR valve out and clean it. Make sure there are no other vacuum leaks.

Measure the voltage to the coil while you are cranking the engine, not just with the key in run. A bad ignition switch is a possibility. Might even try a jumper wire from the battery to the coil hot wire,
