Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: blown fuses, pontiac sunbird, blown fuses

Question
I sure hope you can help Van.

I have a 91 Pontiac Sunbird that keeps blowing the Gauge Cluster fuse which controls the Temp.,Bat.,Gas,Speedo.and oil pressure gauges,
It may last 2 miles or 2 days.

I've checked under the hood for bare wires etc. and cant see any problems,do you have any idea what it could be?

Thanks in advance for your expert advice.

Answer
Hello Brian,
First, make sure you are replacing it with the correct size fuse.
For the most part, the wires going to the sendine units of most of those items, gauges especially, complete the circuit to ground, so grounding the wire, which a rubbed or pinched wire would do, would only make the gauge needle go to one extreme or the other.
There are some other items that are powered by the gauges fuse. The owners manual should have a chart that not only tells what fuse protects a circuit, but another chart that tells what all is protected, or operated by each fuse.
