Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Cruise Control, vacuum lines, cruise control

Question
I have a 1991 Olds Delta Eighty Eight Royale. 3800 V-6. The cruise control will set and work just fine for a few minutes, then it will "knock off". After it has knocked off, "resume" will not work. If I turn the whole thing off, then turn it back on, everything works (including resume) for a while. Then it "knocks off" and I have to start the whole process over again. NOTE: The high mount brake light IS working.   I have checked all the vacuum lines I could find and they appear to be connected and intact. Also have had a recent tune-up, but this problem existed before the tune-up and the mechanic either couldn't find the problem with the cruise or simply forgot about it and didn't address the cruise problem. I did request that he take a look at it. Can you give me some advice on where/how to start, and so on?

                               Thank You,

Answer
Hello Richard,
That doesn't sound to me like it is going to be in the vacuum part of the system or it would resume.
I think it is a loose connection or a bad switch.
The fuse might be loose, but somewhere it is loosing power.
The switch on the signal lever is a good possibility.
An intermittent is very hard to find, but wiggling the connections is where I would start. If by doing that you gain a noticably longer period of operation, you know that one of them is probably the culprit, and you can unplug them and look for reasons for the loose connection.
