Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 96 GMC Jimmy, v6 vortec, timer module

Question
1996 GMC Jimmy
V6 Vortec 4300
Vin code - W
Inside dome light and lights at the feet will not go out. The lights usually come on when the door is open and then go off when the truck is started. They do flicker like they are going off but don't. I know you only say Olds but GMC and Olds are both GM. Any help will be appreciated. Thans Ted

Answer
Hi Ted,
First make sure they are not turned on by the light switch.
If not, then one of the wires to a door switch may be rubbed through or pinched, and touching ground. It wouldn't blow a fuse, because that is the way the system works, they complete the ground side of the circuit.
The switch is probably on the latch mechanism inside the door, but it could be a door jam switch. They can usually be pulled out to check them, but the wire, in the hinge area if the switch is inside the door, should be white.

They signal a timer module, which could be the problem, rather than a switch.
