Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Turn signal fluid?, fuse clips, emergency flashers

Question
Hey Van,

I have a 1992 pontiac Grand Am that has no turn signals. I tested for power @ the fuse and had 12 volts @ both sides W/ the turn signals on. But the flasher unit makes no sound, and of course the bulbs don't light up at all. When I turn on the 4-ways they work just fine. Is it possable that the flasher unit is inop. or in your opinion is my swicth itself not working?

I really appreciate your time and help. I would just replace the swicth but want to make sure that is the bottom line. Thanx lots Van, Your doing a wonderful thing here!!!!!

Answer
Hi Chris,
The flasher for the emergency flashers is different than the turn signal flasher. Find the turn signal flasher, and replace it. Only about $3.00.
It should be in a clip under the bottom edge of the dash, near the ash tray, or a clip mounted to the steering culumn, also under the lower edge of the dash.
It is possible the switch is bad, but I doubt it would be bad in both directions.

That was good that you checked the fuse at both ends like that, but check the fuse clips would be better to be sure contact is made. But that was a very good idea.
