Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Car stalling at sudden brakes, oldsmobile achieva, 1992 oldsmobile achieva

The car is a 1992 Oldsmobile Achieva S, three times the car has stalled when I have had to brake suddenly at traffic lights.  What could be the cause?  I just got this car a few days ago, so I am not on the history of it yet.  When I brake suddenly, it seems to choke up and die, but when I make slow stops, it doesn't do it.

The most likely cause is a BLACKISH RESIDUE that builds up around the throttle plate area and causes the throttle valve to stick partially open, Thus stalling the vehicle. most any knowledgeable reputable facility can clean this residue from the throttle plate and throttle bore and most likely resolve your problem.


QUESTION: Does this stalling make any difference depending upon whether you have a FULL or near EMPTY fuel supply in the fuel tank ?.
