Good morning, Tom:

The parking light/chime of my '94 LeSabre goes on and stays on as soon as I start the car, even though the brake is not engaged. I pulled the fuse to keep from going batty, and soon found out that that fuse also controls the fuel gage when I ran out of gas. Any ideas as to the problem?
Thanks,
Jim
Answer -
This IS a new one I have not heard before.

OK, What other items on the vehicle do NOT work when this particular fuse is pulled ?.

What mechanical work or ANY kind of work has been performed on the vehicle recently ?. As most problems that occur after a recent repair was made can be traced back to the area of where the repair was made as a vacuum line may have been knocked loose or a wire connection came loose, Look around in the area where work was performed.

Thanks, Tom:
Everything but the brake light/chime and fuel guage seem to work when the fuse is pulled. No work recently - did have the crank sensor checked and fuel injector cleaned 9+ months ago, but the brake light problem popped up some months later. I'll check under the hood to see if I can spot any loose wires.

Another question: My antenna doesn't retract anymore as it used to when I turned off the radio. I hear the motor crank, so I suspect it's a worn gear. Do you know how I can get in there and check?

Thanks,
Jim

As to the antenna, The cable that is attached to the antenna mast is broken off of the mast inside the motor. Best solution is to replace the complete antenna assembly as you take the motor apart and replace JUST the mast and a few months later the motor burns up.

I just re-read your original question and can't see the realtion for your statement being:

"The parking light/chime of my '94 LeSabre goes on and stays on as soon as I start the car, even though the brake is not engaged.

Question: What does the chime have to do with the brakes ?.

Thanks, Tom:

The chime rings if the parking brake is engaged, apparently so you won't drive with the brake on.

As to the antenna, what's the best way to access it?

Thanks,
Jim

Answer
You did NOT specify WHICH brake and I took it as meaning the brake pedal to stop the vehicle and NOT the PARKING BRAKE.

On the parking brake assembly there is a small one wire switch mounted on the bracket up under the dash that has a tendency to go bad and or the wire fell OFF thus causing the chime to operate all the time.

As to the antenna if it's mounted on the FRONT feneder usually the tire and wheel and plastic inner fenderwell have to come OFF to access the antenna assembly.

If the antenna is on one of the REAR fenders you just have to peel back the carpet/padding along side of the inside of the trunk.
