Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Speedometer/Odometer Sensor, oldsmobile cutlass, american cars

Question
Hi,

I have a 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciara. I have been experiencing problems with intermittent stalling. The points and plugs are clean from what I was told and they can't find the cause. At the same time, I also noticed that the speedometer/odometer wasn't working properly, and sometimes not at all.

I really have 2 questions:
1) Is there any connection to the car stalling when the speedometer/odometer aren't working properly?
2) Also, how many hours of labor are involved in replacing the sensor.

I greatly appreciate your help.

Thank You

Answer
hi mike..well mikeas far as points they have not been used in american cars since the mid 70,s so if a garage told you that find another quick lol.as for the speed sensor no more then one hrs labor.and are they connected.only in one way the cranksensor and speed sensor kind of work together.if your stall and speedo prob is at the same time then prob your cranksensor is failing but without knowing more about the stall prob i really couldn,t sayy 100 percent.send more info please  does your car stall at idle or cruising speeds.does it restart normal?does it run bad before it stalls ??does it crank for longer then normal ??does it ever fail to restart??any smoke comeing out exhaust ??any noise comeing from front of car or rear near fuel tank??  ty billymac
