Question -OK, but the exhaust is free and clear. Infact it no longer has a cataletic converter. It went cherry red on me so I got rid of it and welded a piece of straight pipe in. Yesterday, I did some diagnostics on the car and found that the IAC tests within perameters. However, when I unplug the IAC the motor idles as smooth as glass until I put it in gear. At that point it starts doing the same thing but only worse. In my opinion it is either running to fat or it is starving for air. But when I try different things to prove this they fail. Is there a way to test the fuel pump without a master kit?
Frank
Let me start by letting you know that I am a auto technician for Firestone/Bridgestone.  I have been an auto mechanic most of my life.  Now for some background information.  I aquired this car after it jumped time and slapped number two's exhaust valve.  However, the cylinder still had 35 psi. in it. I pulled the head and had a machine shop check the head for warp and cracks. Then I replaced all the valves (Lapping each one)and checking valve spring strength. I replaced the t-chain, gears, and tensioner as well.  Now for the problem. The engine has a very rough idle with an occasional knock. It also has no power. It has no vaccum or injector leaks. It has excellent fuel pressure. I replaced the fuel filter and regulator. When I pulled the vaccum hose off of the power booster while it was running it almost completely smoothed out and the knock went away. But when I plugged the end of the hose the engine stalled immediatley. It almost acts like it is starving for air. Oh and to let you know the car set for about six months before I was able to work on it.

Answer
hi frank.yes on the schrader valve take the stem out adapt a rubber fuel line.you can test there.and frank i would also since you still have a vacum prob somewhere take the iac mtr off check for carbon deposits under pintle.although the mtr may be adjusting within the paremeters if pintle is restricted it will not show up.and i would take a real good look at the egr also.i assume you are sure you have no vac leaks.and i hate to ask you but are you positive the timeing is correct because this sure sounds more and more like a timeing prob.good luck frank   billy mac
