Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Battery charging, newer cars, don hi

Question
I recently bought a new Grand Am (2004). After 2 weeks I had only about 130 miles on the car when I was ill and didn't drive it for 6 days. The battery was so dead the clock stopped. I suspect it wasn't fully charged when I drove it off the lot which didn't help. I am retired and don't put a lot of miles on a car, perhaps 5000 per year, most in short trips. My question is, when you start the car, how long do you have to run it to replace the juice you took out? I know the newer cars have computers that also drain.  Thanks for your time,

Don

Answer
Hi Don,
I think there was a light on somewhere.
Like maybe a map light on the mirror?
After just a few minutes of running, the battery should be recharged.
If there isn't a light on...glove compartment, under hood, mirror,...then there is a warranty problem.
