Plymouth Repair: 88 plymouth colt, plymouth colt, backyard mechanic

Question
It seems there is a coolant leak and I can't see anything but the leak is dripping below the oil filter and it is a pretty fast leak. Is there a water pump in that area (lower part of left side of engine) and if so where, I cant see to see it. Any other cause of leakage there. It appears to be a tough spot. How much will a mech. charge or can I do it myself? I'm a pretty good backyard mechanic but there aint much room down there. Thanks.( by the way it is colt E carbeurated 1988 hatchback 2 door. 1.6 I think)

Answer
hello nancy /jim
this sounds like a bad water pump .
in a shop it would be around 300 to 400 to change it .
it is not so bad yes it is a tight spot but you have to remove the right hand tire and acess it that way it is not so bad and the timeing belt as to come off .
