Pontiac Repair: irractic shift & gauges, rodent damage, wire insulation

Question
2003 pontiac azket fwd. will sshift irratic and tach and speedo will fluctuate. speedo will drop to zero and car feels like it is neutral.   speed sensor has been replaced but no affect. does the BCM control shifting and gauges?

Answer
Hi John:

No the engine control module reads the vehicle speed and send the signal to the speedo. I would suspect a wiring issue between the transmission and the engine control module maybe a rodent damage issue where it chewed though some wires and they are touching each other under certain engine loads or a wire harness that is rubbed on something metal and rubbed though the wire insulation. Where to start looking it's 50/50 as to what end to start looking at the trans or the engine. That is what I would start looking for before you change any more parts that you don't need. good luck :-)
