Pontiac Repair: freeze plug replacement 1990 Bonneville, rubber expansion, core hole

Question
What would be the best and quickest way to replace the freeze plugs on the back side of the engine next to fire wall?? The front ones look fairly easy but the back ones look as tho the trans. is in the way.

Answer
Hi dave:
Yes your right. The transaxle is in the way. the only easy way to do it and it's not that easy is a Quick fis rubber expansion type of core hole plug. The onlt issue is space #1 knocking the old one out and #2 getting a wrench into that tight space to replace them. The best way is to have the trnamission removed and do it the correct way. The rubber expansion plug kits are a quick but temp fix. the heat from the engine quickly starts to make the rubber break down and then those start to leak as well. good luck :-)
