Pontiac Repair: abs module/abs light, speed sensors, pontiac montana

Question
QUESTION: My abs light is always on, I had a mechanic diagnose it and the code c1228 motor circuit short to b+/motor ground open. A normal diagnostic brought back no codes, my check engine light is not on or any other light. The mechanic said that my solenoids are all not on. I have done some research and the symptons of the car seems to be a speed sensor in my opinion because I read that the speed sensor could cause the abs light to come on plus cause the shifting in gears to act up, my shifting stall between 20 and 25mph.
My car is a 2002 pontiac montana 3.4L, 159,000 miles sorry for such a long post any helf or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

ANSWER: Hi Kevin:

C1228 is strictly a motor control ckt issue. It has nothing to do with the wheel speed sensors. it's either a bad motor pack/BPMV or EBCM (control module) or a wiring issue between the 2 components. with out seeing it or testing it I can't tell you what the issue is. as for the SES lamp on that is going to be a different issue the trasnkission uses it's own internal speed sensors different then the ABS. what is the code(codes) in the engine cotrol module? Possibly a p1811??? if so then it either has a bad pressure control solenoid in the triamnission or a bad valve body in the transmission BOTH are expensive fixes due to the labor. This van is almost 11 years old and had a pile of mile you need to seriously consider spending the $ on it VS upgrading to something newer it's more then likley comming to a point where this van is going to be a money pit. Good luck :-)

QUESTION: If the check engine light is not on and the van have problems shifting only when u first start drivng then after that it shifts fine, when I took it to the shop for the shifting problem they could not find no codes and didn't feel the problem that I am explaining now but they told me I may need to just get the whole transmission rebuild. What do u think is the best thing to do, besides junking it and buying something new.

Answer
has the SES light come on recently? if so stop by one of the big box auto parts stores they will check for codes for free and see what is in there and then you need to weigh your options any kind of major trasnmission repair is costly BUT you can have an engine issue that effects the way that the tranmission shifts so get it scanned and see what the issue is.
