Pontiac Repair: transmission, friction plates, pontiac grand prix

Question
My pontiac grand prix, 05 has suddenly begun to raise rpms before shifting into gear when at a full stop.  I know this is a sign my tranny is going bad.  Is it already too late, or is there something else that can be done, like the filter?

Answer
Hi Michael:

It doesn't sound good. Make sure the fluyid is full if it's low it can do this as well if it's low get the leak fixed but as soon as a trasnmission starts to slip it doesn't take long before it burnt up the friction plates(clutches) in the tranmsission. A plugged filter can cause this as well but a filter will plug up due to debris in the oil debris in the oil means it comming apart again not good. there is nothing you can do to fix it your self or prolong this it's going to have to be taken apart and repaired. You only hope is that it's ow on fluid and it's a simple repair for a leak. good luck :-)
