Pontiac Repair: help with my 2002 aztek, throttle position sensor, pontiac aztek

Question
QUESTION: my 2002 Pontiac aztek has been cutting off when we come to a stop, it has just to started to do it all the time. it starts fine the rpm gauge goes to 2 then will drop to 0, when it cuts off it will normally take like 5 or 6 tires starting it then it cutting off to get it back to going. what is making it do this? also my car is very loud and there is a clicking like noise associated with it.

ANSWER: Hi there:

well as for the sound It could be just about anything without hearing it I can't even begin to tell you waht it could be. s for the stalling what happens when it stalls out? is it like someone just turned the key off or does it spit sputter then die out? It makes a difference in what direction to look at this. I would stop by one of the big box auto parts stores and get the car scanned for codes and see if any codes are stored in any module it can give you a thumb print as to what way to look. if no codes are stored it makes the job harder for sure.

QUESTION: when is stalls out, it is like i cut it off with the key. the vattery light comes on and thats it. i then have to put it in park ad re start the car. could it be the Throttle Position Sensor? from what i read this would make my car do this.

Answer
I doubt it. They do not go bad very often on those engines. sounds like an ignition issue either crank position sensor/ignition module or some sort of a power/ground issue. A bad ignition switch could cause issues as well but if that were the root to the evil here you would have other warning lamps comming on and other things in the car would quit working like power accys or the blower motor. One other though would be an idle control motor and or a cirty carboned up throttle body and throttle plate. BUT usually if that were the case it would start right back up with a little but of throttle input. Start with the code scanning first.
