Pontiac Repair: 99 Pontiac grandam, auto parts stores, battery cables

Question
I have a 99 pontiac grandam. My car engine shuts off whenever I hit the brakes to stop for any reason I hit the brake even to  reverse. Plus the instrument panel shows the  "TRAC OFF" and the "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" lights. Any idea what the problen can be?

Answer
Hi Martha:

this is a strange one for sure. Each and every time you step on the brakes the car stalls? If ther were the case along with all the warning light on on the dash I would start looking for a bad connection at the battery or one of the battery cables. if the battery is leaking acid out of of the terminals where the battery connects that would be the first place to look and if indded there is a corrosion issue do to leaking acid then that cable will need to be replaced. along with the battery. One other though would be this when you start the car up doe all the accesories work like radio wipers power windows heater/a/c blower motor? if you have issues where some of them do not work I would think to look at possably a bad ignition siwtch in this. The last thing to do would to stop by one of the big box auto parts stores and have then scan the car for codes and see waht is stored in the different modules and see what they may have in common.
good luck :-)
