Pontiac Repair: Lights out, dashboard lights, pontiac montana

Question
I have a 99 Pontiac Montana and the other night we noticed our dashboard lights, the back lights, and the hazard lights weren't working. When we opened the door, it started dinging like we left the keys in the ignition or the lights on. The headlights, blinkers and brake lights still work though. What could be the problem?

Answer
Hi Jess:

if the backlighting quit working but the headlamps work chances are the dimmer switch on the dash is bad. As for the chime If you were playing around with the head lamps swicth trying to get them to turn on chances are you left the switch on? these vans have Auto headlamps so really the headlamps swicth is just a back up if the auto lamps were to fail.. With out seeing it I can't give you a clear cut answer it's just a guess. Good Luck :-}
