Pontiac Repair: EGR VALVE, neighborhood shop, pontiac grand am

I HAVE A 2001 PONTIAC GRAND AM V6, ENGINE SIZE 3.4
MY SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SO I TOOK IT TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD SHOP. THE MECHANICS SAID I NEEDED A NEW EGR VALVE. WHAT THEY DID WAS CLEAN THE VALVE OUT INSTEAD OF REPLACING IT. THE MECHANICS TOLD ME THAT THE EGR VALVE IS WORKING BUT THE LIGHT IS STILL ON. NOW THEY'RE SAYING ITS ELECTRICAL. I'M TIRED OF PAYING FOR GUESSES.

It all depends  on what code is set for this. If it's a 1404 code there is an esy fix for it but it has to be doe an a Dealership or an AC Declo repair facility. The software in the engine control module has a glitch. and there is a revised claibartion to take care of the issue. If it's a different code then it could very well be an eletrical issue of some sort. good luck :-}
