Pontiac Repair: 2001 Sunfire wont start, pontiac sunfire, gm dealer

Question
I have an 2001 Pontiac Sunfire I had it started in the spring time and it seem to work fine about a mouth or 2 an now it wont't start i had charged the battery back to full because it was dead and tested the starter and it works, when i turn the engine it doesn't do anything except for the lights on the dash flicker and that is it, i had test the wireing from the battery right to the starter and everything is good there. i was wondering if you could help me what the problem could be

Answer
Hi Brian:

these had a recall on them for a starting issue that recall may or may not have been done. call a GM dealer if your not the original owner give them your VIN # and they can check to see if it was done or not. It was a kit that was installed to stop a "termal event" basically the contatcs in the ignition switch would melt. yours may be one of these that slipped through the cracks and was never done??? did you try to crank the car with the trnamission in neutral? you could have a bad safety switch on the trnamission if it crank in "N" the switch is bad. other then what I mentione would be a wiring issue between the starter and the safety switch or between the safety switch and the ignition switch. If it were a factry security system issue it wouls start and stall ans the security lamp would flash on and off. good luck :-}
