Pontiac Repair: crankshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor, crank shaft

Question
just moved to east tennessee, stuck here with 92 pontiac grand am se v6, from reading up on here, i believe we have a problem with the crank shaft sensor, when it would get hot, it would have to sit for a few to cool down, than would turn over again, so i could go. it now will not turn over at all, so i am wondering how i could change the crankshaft sensor, if you have an illustration of it on the engine, that would be helpful! am really stuck, so the more help u could give me, would be greatly appreciated!also, would it be possible to buy one of these from a junkyard or do you advise getting a new one?

Answer
Hey Kieth:

if it will not turn over it has either an engine mechanical issue like the engine seized up or an electrical issue with the starter motor or the power feed to the motor/solenoid. The crank sensor is not used for cranking the engine over it's for the ignition and fuel systems. does the starter motor at least click when you try to cran it over? if not then it's an electriacl issue for sure if it clicks and nothing happens it's either a bad starter motor or the engine is seized. at least you have a direction to go here.
