Pontiac Repair: 2000 Sunfire wont go into 1st gear, head gasket, pontiac sunfire

I have a 2000 Pontiac sunfire, manual trans. When I have the car in neutral, it is stiff.. and when I try to put it in first or second gear, its really hard, I kinda have to smack it in. It all started when I got a new head gasket put in.. so I just left it. That was two years ago now and I haven't done anything with it. I put new cables on it, so its not the cables, and I also lubed where the cables go onto those nuckles on the motor.. Any ideas? Thank you very much

sounds like an internal transmission issue a bad syncro assembly most likely. If there isn't an issue going itno 4'th then it's not an issue with the shifter assebly or the cables it's a problem in the trasnmission. It's not going to get any better just worse. good luck :)
