i ran out of gas my 2000 sunfire when i put gas in it.it does not want to start would there be a shut off switch on the fuel pump when it runs out of gas does it make turn off the switch

are you sure you indeed ran out of fuel? That model year was very common for fuel pump failure. ther is no reset switch. You may want to try this have someone crank the car over and tap the bottom of the gas tank in the middle of the tank with a rubber mallet that may jar the pump and allow it to start running again.
