Pontiac Repair: no heat in my car, intake manifold gasket, cold climates

Question
my heat is not blowing in my car i have a 02 pontiac bonneville the rear defog works but no heat blowing when i am driving there is a very little heat but when i stop there is no heat at allit is very cold here and i need heat

Answer
Hi mary:

when the car is cold and has been sitting all day or over night check to amke sure the coolant is full in the radiator and in the over flow tank. if it's low then chnaces are you have 2 of 2 leaks. either the upper intanke manifold is leaking coolant out the rear under the throttle body and or the lower intake manifold gasket is leaking coolant. if the coolant is full and your expeinceing low to no heat i would venture to say the thermostat is bad but usually in cold climates if the thermostat is stuck open or opens too soon it will usually turn on a service engine soon lamp due to the errratic coolant temp. So If I were to guess I'm saying it's low on coolant. Good luck :)

P.S. Just filling it up with coolant is not a "fix" getting the leak looked at is a high priority expecially if the lower intake gasket is leaking if it's leaking into the engine that is not a god thing because oil and water do not mix and it will cause engine damage!
