Pontiac Repair: BONNEVILLE SSEI TRANSMISSION, gm parts, performance aspect

Question
I have a 1995 Bonneville SSEi with the turbocharged motor. I have a gentleman who is trying to sell me a tranny from a regular 1994 Bonneville without the turbocharged motor. Are these tranny's interchangeable? If so, are there any performance or speedometer changes I can expect? I think the trannies are 4T60E's

Answer
Hi Steve:

I would not buy it fo 2 reasons. the supercharged engine has more toque the th base 3800 engine so would venture to say that the tranmission is different inside as far as the strength of the cluth packs in the transmission and econdly "usually" the final drive inhe transmision on an ssei is different due to the performance aspect of the engine so it will trow off the speedo and then the shift points. It is possable that a base Bonneville SE could have the same final drive but I doubt that highly! so steer away from it. You need one from the same engine/car/model year configuration. if you resally need to fa used unit try a goole search for trplet used car parts or Wilbert's GM parts and see if they can help you out. Wilberts is In NY but the triplet places are across the country. Good luck :)
