Pontiac Repair: changing the starter on a 2001 Pontiac Aztek, 2001 pontiac aztek, pontiac aztek

Question
I need to know the location and how to change the starter on a 2001 Pontiac Aztek

Answer
Hi April:

Disconnect the battery. The starter is on the bottom of the engine on the left side of the block which it close to the radiator. you need to take the black plastic fly wheel cover off that goes between the engine and the transmission. there are 3 screws that hold the 2 pieces on. then there are 2 bolts that hold the starter to the egine block. take theose out and there there are 2 wire connections the large vbattery cable and the small wire that the crank signal is on. remove those and drop the starter out. Pay attention to where the small "crank" wire goes. cheap after market starters have 2 studs where that small wire can go on. the original starter only has 1 stud. do not mix them up. good luck :)
