Pontiac Repair: Grand Am timing chain, damage occured, balance shaft

Question
I recently finished replacing the timing chain and balance shaft chain on my 2002 Grand Am 2.2L. The adjustable chain guide and tensioner had both broken, I put cyl 1 at TDC but did not use a compression tester to verify, However I did use a tool to feel that the piston had reached the top of its stroke. All timing marks ligned up when I had replaced everything (all balance chain guides, all timing guides, sprockets, chain and tensioner). Afterwards the engine will turn over with no noises from valves hitting pistons but will not start. The car had stalled one day when the chain parts broke but no valve damage occured. What should I look at first?

Answer
You need to check for compression first and foremost. Either with a compression tester or if you have compressed at a cylinder leakage test is more accutare with a leakage tester. If it is lacking compression it will never run. that Is where I would start looking. Good luck :)
