Pontiac Repair: 2002 Sunfire stiff brake pedal and steering wheel wont turn over., engine vacuum, low beams

Question
As I left for work yesterday morning car did not feel right I didn't get to drive very far so it all happened so fast I'm trying to be as accurate as possible as exiting my complex something didn't feel right I'm not sure if the brake pedal was stiff or choppy acceleration but instinctively thought my mat was interfering with the pedals reached down to pull it out but it wasn't under the pedals turned right no problem a few feet later went to brake and make left turn noticed brake pedal is very hard to push steering wheel nearly impossible to turn as I was in a panic I don't recall if the engine shut off then on it's own or if I shut it off to attempt restart and release either way car will not turn over now I have the radio and lights the oil and check engine light are on as well as a service light but I think that is related to a low bean issue I've been having lately occasionally they wont work and that service light comes on or they will flicker off while driving and it come on at any rate that light only comes on when the low beams short out.

Answer
Hi Kesha:

Well as for the stiff brake pedal I'm thinking that something happened with the powerr brake booster and that would account for the engine stalling out too. the brake booster uses engine vacuum to assist in power brakes. If the booster started to leak then you would deprive the engine of vacuum and the engine would die b8ut first the rpm's may spike up. if the car will start and run listen for a hissing noise near the brak pedal when it's depresses. As for the headlamps if you live in the rust belt like I do chnaces are that the forward lamp harness that feeds the head lamps is bad there are splices in that harness for the hi and lo beams abd they corrode out and then you have the issue you states with a flashing drl lamp and a service vehicle lamp. good luck :)
