Pontiac Repair: Pontiac Montana SV6, pontiac montana sv6, spark plug wire

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2006 Pontiac Montana SV6 with a 3.5. It has been dying while I drive it. Started out doing it once while driving to a destination to several times. After it dies I let it sit a min and it will start. When it dies the display reads starting disabled. Service traction control. And then reduced engine power. Thank you.

ANSWER: Hey andy:

well with out knowing what codes are set in this I xcan't tell you where to even start looking. stop by one of the big box auto parts stores and have them scan the van for codes. My guess is there is some sort of TAC codes setting which is throttle related it could be a bad accelerator pedal assembly or a throttle body or a wiging issue in between them and the engine computer. it must be some sort of a major fault. the system is designed to when ther is a failure of some kind to go into a limp home mode wich would allow the engine to run but not any excessive speeds. As for the traction lamp the abs/ and engine controls are inter twined so if ther is a issue with one it "CAN" effect the other. good luck :)

QUESTION: Thank you for your fast reply. I ran it by a shop who hooked it up to the scanner. The only codes that came back were one saying the cooling fan was not working and the number 2 cylinder is misfiring. I recently replaced the fan but didn't reset the code. Also the vehicle has no problem accelerating. One of the times it has died it was on the interstate. I Have also noticed that the battery volts are running from 14.2 to 15.2. what would you suggest at this point?

Answer
well there is a possablilty that you have a spark plug wire issue going on here. Usually the misfires on these engines is leaking spark plug wires meaning they are to engine ground before firing a spark plug. It's possably that the leaking wires could be arching into the engine wire harness and causing a stall. A single cylinder misfire should not cause a stall! doe this happen more on damp or rainy days? If so that would further point to a plug wire issue.
