Pontiac Repair: Extreme Missing Under Hard Acceleration, oil leaks, pontiac booneville

Question
My mom has a 2001 Pontiac Booneville SE with the V6. (im a Mitsubishi kind of guy so i don't know much about this car) We just fixed an oil leak. Well oil leaks. when we first one, another one would show up immediately. but its finally not leaking oil. but now its missing really bad under hard acceleration. My brother says its so bad it feels like the engine is trying to lock up. but it runs just fine in idle and very little acceleration. My brother is about ready to give up on the car but we really cant afford to buy another car. But my brother also doesn't really know how to use the internet well. but anywho, what is causing this problem and how hard will it be to fix?

Answer
Hi Mark:

if it idels fine but has a misfire under load then it has on of these three things had A bad set of plug wires/A bad cracked spark plug/Bad ignition coil. each coil drives 2 cylinders It fires the plugs every engine revolution and the pl;ugs are basically in a loop so one bad cylinder EG wire or plug will affect the companion cylinder so 1 bad cylinder can take out 2. Spray the engine down with water and see if you see spark jumping from a leaking plug wire or a cracked plug. if you have an OHM meter check the resistance across the top of each coil the resiatnce of the coild when cold should be between 5000-8000 ohms if they are far more or far less you have a bad coil. That is where I would start looking. Good luck :)
