Pontiac Repair: pontiac bonaville, brake light switch, pontiac bonneville

Question
I have a 1994 pontiac bonneville 3800 the engine runs in park but it will not come out of park after pressing the break when it should?

Answer
Hi Larry:

Is this a column or sfllor shiter? Do you have break lights whn you step on the brake? if not you could have a blown fuse or a brake light switch that is bad. the brake light switch also controls the BTSI which is why you can't get it out of park. there could be a BTSI issue here or even a simple linkage/shifter cable issue...  when you step on the brake pedal you should hear the BTSI solenoid clicking in the column or in the floor shifter if you don't hear it clicking it's an issue with that system If you hear is clicking and can't shift it it's a linkage/cable issue.. Good luck :)
