Pontiac Repair: elect. trunk latch, latch motor, pontiac formula

Question
I replaced the motor on the Hatch of my 1989 Pontiac Formula. It closed the first time and I thought I was done. But when I went to open it, it opened then started to close right away. With the help of my son pushing the release button, I was able to lift it before it could pull it closed. Now the latch has moved down toward the motor and the catch on the hatch can not reach it. I have a feeling this is why these motor (made of plastic)brake. You help will be greatly appreciated.  Sincerly Don

Answer
Hi Don.

if you press the release button the latch will not raise back up? did you replace the whole latch/motor assembly or just the motor on the latch? I didn't think they were service speratly they came from the factory complete with the motor. If you just replaced the motor it's possable that it was not keyed right to the latch and that's why it's stuck in the down position and it thinks it should be in the UP position? That is the only idea that I have short of replacing the whole thing either a new one if you can still get them from the dealer being that this car is now 21 years old I highly doubt they still make it You may be able to find new old stock from a internet "F" body store or get a used assemby from a junk yard. there is not much diagnosis to that system If I remeber correctly and My internet service info only goes back to 1998 and they stopped using that system long before 1998. Sorry I can't be of much more help to you. Good luck :)
