Pontiac Repair: car over heating, coolant tank, temp gauge

Question
i own a 2004 Pontiac grand dam V6. My problems is that my car is overheating when it reaches a temperature of 200 and than the car just shuts off. I have to wait a while to start the car again. so i had my thermostat changed i had my fans changed as well because they where not kicking in. i also have all kinds of cords changed as well. The mechanic told me to change my fuel pump. Was going to take the car. When all of a sudden the car stalled and just turned off. the car won't turn on anymore tried to jump start the car did not turn on. It's just got to the point where i am very frustrated and don't know what to do.

Answer
Hi Rosanne:

200 Is not overheating. these engine will run between 200-225 all the time with out any issues. any more then that and you have an overheat issue for sure. maybe the temp gauge is off? does it physically overheat and boil over out of the coolant tank? when you say it will not turn one what do you mean? it will not crank? it cranks but will not run? Maybe you have an issue here when the engine gets hot that an electrical component quits like a fuel pump or an ignition module.. When it gets hot and dies what happens? does it chug spit and sputter then die or does it just quit running like someone turned off the key?
