Pontiac Repair: 2008 Pontiac GP Remote Start, key fobs, hood latch

Question
I have the Remote Start Key FOBs - when I press start, the DIC inside the vehicle says "Remote Start Disabled" My vehicle VIN is:
2G2WP552381169978 - and I am willing to change the 3 button DIC to a 5 button one if it will allow me to use this function. Do you know if anything else would be required to get this remote start to work???
My dealer tells me it is Impossible, but, I have a hard time with the word "IMPOSSIBLE" - especially when it comes to a man-made object such as a car.
Any info or help would be very much appreciated. Thank You.
Joe

Answer
Hi Joe:

let me guess you bought this car used and they gave you a set of remotes that have the remote start option? Happens all the time used cars managers have a box of remotes that look like the correct ones for the car but are not. They send the remotes over to the service department for programming and either the tech doesn't notice they are the wrong one,Doesn't care they are the wrong ones or is just following orders like a good soldier. The car is not equipped with that option. I just ran the car history and it doesn't have the correct options on it for remote start. It's a plain Jane Grand Prix. There how ever are kits available for "SOME" cars and trucks to have a remote start option added to them as an accessory package. The catch to the whole thing is the car has to have a hood ajar switch on the hood latch. if the car doesn't have the hood latch switch this kit can not be added to the car. the car has to have that switch and the wiring that goes with it.. If equipped this kit can be added to the car and the modules then have to be reconfigured to allow for remote start activation. It has special instructions and programming different then the normal channels that we use to reprogram modules. That car in GM's data base for ca libations will always be labeled as a car without remote start so it can just be reprogrammed to make it work. Call a different GM dealer and talk to a person in the parts department that has a clue and they can look into this further for you. I don't know the proper channels to go through to find out if there is a kit for you car or not.. I just fix 'em I don't look up the parts... Lastly DO NOT take this to any place to have a remote starter added to this car with an aftermarket kit. NONE of them are good quality and usually they are installed on cars and the wiring is hacked up by guys that have no business attaching these to a high tech car. Good luck :)
