Pontiac Repair: 97 Gran Prix GTP, grand prix gtp, content theft

Question
Our 97 Grand Prix GTP has the remote entry with theft deterrent.  We are having to replace the battery in the remote about every 2 months.  Is there an easy way to disconnect the system that will allow the engine to start?  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Sharon:

Unless you push the lock Button 2 times you should not be in theft provention mode. if you just pust the lock button on the remote 1 time it will not arm the content theft system on this car. Does it have a aftermarket alarm on it and that remote keeps eating up batteies? The factory remote battery should last more then 2 months the battry should be able to last 2 years! Does it happen to both remotes? Look in the owners manual under customization and I belive there is a chapter on setting up the door lock options. It may be fonfigures incorrectly. The way I mentioned in the normal default way for the locks to work. Maybe the modes got switched somewher down the line??? Good Luck :)
